About Us

Mason Dixon Laser was founded in 2004 under the direction of general surgeon Dr. Timothy McKee, M.D. Since then, the team of Tara Assi, Certified Physician Assistant, and Dr. Timothy McKee has been providing exceptional laser service to clients in both Pennsylvania and Maryland.

All the laser services are provided in a medical practice setting, in the office of Gettysburg Surgical Associates. Doing so allows us to provide our clients with the highest standards of treatment, safety and care. The surgical office has been a pillar in the community for decades, and boasts a long-standing reputation for friendly staff, physicians, and excellent care.

As a part of Wellspan Health System, Mason Dixon laser has access to numerous resources in order to meet the needs of any patient or client that walks through our doors.

Pre-Treatment

Skin care prior to your treatment is extremely important, and will only help to enhance your results.

Prior to your visit, we ask that you fill out and submit these few forms (or fill these out and bring them to your visit.)

For Best Results :

* Our Providers recommended that sun exposure be limited to 4 - 6 weeks before a planned laser treatment. If sun exposure is unavoidable, we recommend sunscreen of at least 30 be applied to the treatment area.
* For those patients with darker sin types or tans, a bleaching cream may be prescribed for improved results.
* Do not wax, pluck, or use electrolysis 4 - 6 weeks before your schedule treatment.

Day of Initial Treatment :

* We ask that you please come to your first treatment with the treatment area fully shaven. Depilatory creams may also be used up to the day before your treatment.
* Clean and wash the area so it is free of any make-up or powder.
* If desired, your provider can prescribe you a topical anesthetic cream prior to your treatment. If you desire to use this numbing agent, we ask that you apply the cream to the area 30 minutes to 2 hours before your scheduled treatment.

Please let your provider know if you have any of the following :

* History of herpes simplex
* History of herpes genitalis
* History of keloids/hypertrophic scarring

As these conditions may affect your treatment process.

Post-Treatment

Skin care after treatments is just an important as skin care prior to your treatments. Skin after laser therapy tends to be more fragile and can be injured more easily than normal.

The normal course of healing :

* Most patients will develop redness or swelling directly after their treatment that will reduce typically in 24 - 48 hours.
* For at least one week after your treatment, be sure to wear sunscreen of at least 30 SPF or higher on the treated area.
* Gentle washing of the treated area is acceptable, but take care not to rub or scrub the treated area.
* Protect the skin from rubbing and abrasions, and avoid contact sports.
* Avoid any irritating medications or chemicals, particularly on the face
(Examples: Astringents, Benzyl Peroxide, or Retin-A)
* Do not shave the area for at least 4 days after your treatment.

Usually, around 2 weeks after your first treatment you may experience what seems to be re-growth of hair, but actually is not. This is referred to as shedding, where the hairs release from the root and simply fall out. Utilizing a loofah sponge while showering may help the hairs shed faster from the skin.

Occasionally, some patients may develop crusting on the treated area :

* If this develops, you may expect a healing period similar to a mild abrasion.
* Avoid sun exposure to the area while healing. If sun exposure is unavoidable, apply sunscreen of at least 30 SPF to the entire area.
* Avoid swimming until the area has healed.
* Do not wear makeup on the area until it is fully healed.

Please notify us if you experience any :

* Increased Swelling
* Increased Tenderness
* Increased Redness
* Increased Skin temperature (hot)
* Blistering
* Or pus-like drainage
