* How does it work?

The CoolGlide laser used by About-U generates intense, long-pulse (1064) light which effectively disables unwanted pigmented hair follicles impairing their growth. The laser's chilled handpiece is placed gently on the skin and glides gently along as pulses of light are delivered from the laser. The light penetrates the skin and selectively damages the root of unwanted hair in the treatment area.

* What areas can be treated?

The CoolGlide system can remove hair from all parts of the body including the face, legs, arms, underarms and back. It can also treat sensitive areas like the nose, chest, nipples, and bikini line.


* What does it feel like?

The laser treatment may feel like a mild pinch or sting for a fraction of a second. Our laser has a built-in cooling tip that not only helps to protect the skin, but also helps to minimize discomfort.

* How many treatments will I need?

Most areas require 3-6 treatments, but the number of treatments you may require for optimal long-term benefits depends on various factors such as your hair's thickness, the area treated, and your hair's growth cycle. Not all hairs are actively growing at the same time, but actually go through three distinct phases: growth, regression, and resting. CoolGlide systems work by disabling the hair that is in the active growth phase at the time of treatment. Since other hairs will enter this active growth phase at different times, additional treatments may be necessary to disable all of the hair follicles in a given area.

* How long do the treatments take?

An upper lip and chin can be done in 15-20 minutes. Underarms or bikini lines usually take 20-30 minutes. Legs and backs take longer. * What happens after the treatment?

Immediately following your CoolGlide treatment, the area may appear a bit red and swollen. Three to seven days after treatment you may experience what seems to be regrowth of hair. Actually, most of these hairs are being shed as a result of your treatment, and are not regrowing. Between treatments you should not wax or pluck your hair, but it is permissible to shave.

* Are there any restrictions on my activity after treatment?

Following the treatment, you can return to your normal activities right away. However, since some redness may occur, you may want to plan your work or social engagements accordingly. The use of sunscreen is recommended on any treated areas exposed to the sun. As always, it is a good idea to limit your sun exposure. In addition, your provider may recommend that you use a specially formulated skin care product line or prescribe a skin care regimen especially formulated for your skin type.

* Can all skin types be treated?

The CoolGlide laser has an advantage over other laser hair removal systems because it allows treatments of all skin types, including tanned patients.

* Why Pigmented hair?

The ability of the laser to damage hair follicles and not harm surrounding areas of your skin is contingent on the pigment within the cells of the hair. The pigment acts as a target, guiding the laser light and white and very light hairs lack a concentration of targets, making the treatment less effective.
