Laser hair removal is the second most common cosmetic procedure in 2003 and 2004. Many more Americans would like to have unwanted hair removed permanently but do not know where to go or are afraid of the procedure. At the Shanti Medical Spa & Wellness Center we offer the latest in laser technology called ELOS. It is faster and has fewer complications. This combines radio frequency and optical energy together for a better result and more comfort to the patient. We can remove hair on all skin colors and all hair types. WHAT IS LASER HAIR REMOVAL?
Laser hair removal is the newest technology to provide permanent hair reduction. Specific wavelengths of laser light or intense pulsed light are used to destroy hair roots. Most authorities feel this is better than any other current technology. It is faster, and it has fewer complications than other methods. Some hair loss occurs initially, but maximum hair loss may not be seen for several weeks after each treatment. In general, multiple treatments will be needed depending on the site.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS ARE NEEDED?
It varies with the area being treated and on what percentage of the hair is actively growing. Darker hair has more melanin and is more easily removed. People with dark skin and people with light hair are more difficult to treat. The average number of treatments can vary. The treatments are usually scheduled every five to six weeks to allow optimal hair growth in the area being treated.

DOES IT HURT?
Relative to waxing, electrolysis, tweezing, and ripping, laser hair removal does not hurt. It has been described as a stinging, or like a rubber band snapping against your skin lightly when the light pulse is triggered. This stinging or snapping sensation last just a few seconds and is over. At the Shanti Medical Spa & Wellness Center, we want out patients to have the best treatment, so we use a machine that blows cool air on the treatment area to help minimize our patients discomfort.
