Working at Shanti, taught her how to safely treat skin of all colors, which is her passion.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does Laser Hair Removal work?
Laser Hair Removal is a fast, gentle way to remove unwanted hair, with great results. It applies precisely controlled pulses of energy, reaching into the hair follicles that lie beneath the skin. The energy heats the hair, right down to the bottom of the root, destroying it without damaging surrounding tissue or skin.

How many treatments of Laser Hair Removal will I need?
Hair can be in one of three stages. One of the stages is called the ‘Active’ (Anagen) stage. At any given time, 15% to 20% of your hair will be in the Active stage. During a treatment, only the Active stage hair will be treated by the laser. This is why at-least 5 treatments are required to cover most of the hair for the body part being treated.

Is Laser Hair Removal the same as Permanent Hair Removal?
Yes. Laser Hair Removal is one of the safest and most effective methods for Permanent Hair Removal. However, after a period of time touch ups may be needed.

What areas can be treated for Laser Hair Removal?
Laser Hair Removal can be done on any body part except for your eyelashes and head. Common areas include the face and neck, arms, underarms, back, chest, legs, bikini area, hands and feet.

How long do Laser Hair Removal treatments take?
This depends on the area being treated. Full legs can take anywhere from 90 minutes to 2 hours; the bikini area can take up to 30 minutes; underarms or lips will take up to 15 minutes.

How far apart are the treatments?
Treatments can be anywhere from 4 to 12 weeks apart depending on the area being treated.

How do I prepare for the treatment?
Stay out of the sun and tanning beds and avoid tanning lotions for at-least 2 weeks before the treatment. Shave the area to be treated. Do not wax or use any creams to remove the hair before the treatment.

How long before I see results of Laser Hair Removal?
You will see some results immediately. It will take 1-2 weeks for all the hair in the treated area to fall out. The next batch of hair will then appear as they move into the active stage. As you progress through your treatments, you will see less and less hair re-growing.

Can I be treated if I have blonde / red / grey hair?
The laser energy targets melanin, or pigment, in your hair. The greater the amount of melanin, the better the results will be. White or grey hair does not contain any melanin and hence cannot be treated. Blonde hair does contain some melanin and hence may be treatable. During your consultation, our aesthetician will be able to determine if you are a good candidate for Laser Hair Removal.

What does Laser Hair Removal feel like?
Each pulse from the laser produces a slight tingling feeling. In particularly sensitive areas, such as the upper lip, it may feel like a quick, light pinch. The duration of each pulse is very short, in the micro-second range. Our laser tip is cooled to reduce the tingling effect. Additionally, for sensitive areas, we have an external cooling device that blows very cold air to further reduce the tingling feeling. A topical numbing cream may also be applied to some areas.

Is Laser Hair Removal suitable for everyone?
At DermaCenter, we customize the treatment to exactly match your unique hair color, skin color and type. As long as there is some color in your hair, our system will be effective. We offer a consultation during which our aesthetician will ensure that you are a good candidate that will get effective results before we treat you.

What side effects does Laser Hair Removal have?
Most clients experience no side effects at all, though few exhibit some short-term local redness of the surrounding skin and some swelling around the hair follicles. You can return to your regular activities immediately after treatment, although it is advisable to keep the skin protected from exposure to direct sunlight for a short period of time.
